Project Overview
The India Buildings in Liverpool is one of the city’s most iconic Grade II* listed structures — a grand 1930s office complex located in the heart of the business district. As part of a multi-million-pound redevelopment project, the site underwent a full-scale transformation to modernise its facilities while preserving its architectural heritage.
This ambitious renovation was commissioned to prepare the building for occupation by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) as part of the UK Government’s office consolidation programme. The project involved extensive restoration of historic interiors, structural reinforcement, and the complete removal of legacy asbestos materials embedded throughout the building.
Given the building’s scale and historical importance, the asbestos removal phase was one of the most technically challenging aspects. The contractor was tasked with ensuring the safe and compliant removal of all hazardous materials from a complex, multi-floor environment — all while maintaining the integrity of the original structure and working within strict regulatory controls.
The project demanded precision, planning, and the use of highly reliable, specialist equipment that could perform safely and efficiently within confined, controlled zones.
Our Role
Our company was proud to support the asbestos removal specialists throughout this landmark renovation, providing a full suite of plant, tool, and lifting solutions tailored to the project’s demanding requirements.
We worked closely with site managers and project coordinators to ensure that every piece of equipment was delivered on time, fully certified, and ready for use — minimising downtime and maintaining continuous progress across multiple work zones.
Our contribution included:
- Supplying specialist lifting equipment and access platforms for restricted internal areas.
- Providing ventilation units, negative pressure systems, and dust suppression equipment to ensure air quality compliance.
- Delivering compact plant machinery for waste removal and material handling in confined spaces.
- Maintaining rapid-response support for breakdowns and urgent tool replacements.
- Offering expert equipment guidance to ensure every hire matched the exact operational needs of the asbestos removal process.
Our proactive service and technical support helped maintain strict safety standards while keeping the project on schedule — ensuring the contractor could focus on precision asbestos removal without disruption.

The Outcome
Through collaboration, reliability, and technical expertise, we helped our client successfully complete one of Liverpool’s largest and most sensitive asbestos removal projects to date.
The India Buildings have now been fully restored and redeveloped, ready to accommodate thousands of HMRC staff in a modern, safe, and efficient workplace — a fitting legacy for one of the city’s most prestigious landmarks.
“Having dependable equipment and responsive hire support was absolutely crucial on a project of this complexity. The team’s efficiency, product knowledge, and commitment to safety made a huge difference from start to finish.”
